We had such a fantastic day with Jenna and Sam for their wedding at the DoubleTree by Hilton Skybar in Edinburgh. From the very start of the day right through to the dancefloor, it was a celebration full of great moments, lovely people, and plenty of opportunities for us to get creative with our photography.
As Jenna and Sam had booked both of us for full-day coverage, we were able to capture everything from the morning preparations right through to the evening party. Having two photographers always gives us the chance to tell the story of the day from multiple perspectives, and it meant we could document all those little moments happening at the same time as the bigger events.
One thing we definitely had to contend with was the weather. It was an incredibly bright day, which sounds ideal on paper, but photographers will know that harsh midday sunlight can actually be one of the trickiest lighting conditions to work in. Thankfully we were able to use flash throughout much of the day to balance things out and create flattering light where possible. The ceremony itself was the one exception, where we worked with the natural light available and focused on capturing the moments as they unfolded.
One of our favourite moments from the day came thanks to the huge windows at the Skybar. The sunlight created an amazing rainbow diffraction effect that we were able to use for some really unique ring photographs. It was one of those unexpected opportunities that photographers love to find, and at a gay wedding it felt especially fitting to incorporate those beautiful rainbow colours into the images.
After the ceremony we headed outside for a confetti throw before gathering everyone together for group photographs. We then spent some time with Jenna and Sam for their first couple session of the day, making the most of the stunning Edinburgh views surrounding the venue.
Later in the evening, as the sun started to drop lower in the sky, we snuck away for a second mini couple shoot. Golden hour always brings a different atmosphere, and it gave us the chance to create another set of portraits with a completely different feel from those taken earlier in the day.
Throughout the reception we captured plenty of natural candid moments, family photographs, and all the fun that comes with a wedding celebration. We always encourage guests to come and find us if there are family photos they’d like taken, and it’s a great way to make sure everyone leaves with memories of the people who matter most to them.
Jenna and Sam were such a sweet couple to work with and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their friends and family brought so much warmth and energy to the day, and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of their wedding. Congratulations again to you both, we loved every minute of it!
