Weddings, Edinburgh Weddings

We had the pleasure of joining Debbie and Calvin for their wedding at Dundas Castle in Edinburgh. The venue was absolutely stunning, offering countless opportunities for amazing photos.

The castle presented some challenges for us with lighting, but that’s nothing we aren’t prepared for! We got our flashes and strobes out for all of the indoor shooting except for the ceremony, where we turn them off so we don’t pose a distraction. Despite the challenges, Dundas Castle made for the perfect backdrop for what turned out to be an absolutely magical wedding day that we feel privileged to be able to shoot.

We pride ourselves on our party pictures. This is usually the hardest part of the day to capture, because without bringing in flash, you end up with dark grainy photos. Wedding photographers that rely on only natural light, can’t get the same level of quality that we achieve in these conditions.

At Debbie and Calvins wedding we had a lovely large white ceiling and white walls in the party tent, allowing us to bounce flash to get lovely soft light, effectively creating a giant soft box. We chose not to overdo it though, because although nice clean light is great from a technical perspective, we would lose the atmosphere from the room. It’s a fine balance between getting a clean shot and keeping the feel of the day.

The staff at the venue were absolutely amazing and pulled out the stops to help us and the couple to get the shots we wanted to achieve. Big shout out to Lyndsay the coordinator in particular, who was on the ball constantly to make sure the day ran smoothly.

Debbie and Calvin had both of us for the whole day, from getting ready right through till well into the party at the end of the night, so we could document every moment of their stunning wedding.
